BLUEBERRY (Vaccinium corymbosum)

American Giant Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) is a perennial and spontaneous shrub from heats and forests in the north-east of America and there are intensive cultivations in USA and Canada. Blueberry's growing needs light, melted and a little deep grounds, with a lot of organic substance and above all a very acid reaction (PH 4 - 5,5).

Similar to V. corymbosum is blueberry "conilopide" (Vaccinium ashei ), more adaptable in places with mild winter and more compact grounds.
Moreover exist a lot of varieties obtained by interspecific hybridization between V. corymbosum, V. ashey e V. angustifolium.

Moreover V. vitis idaea or European Red Blueberry is cultivated in the north European countries for its red fruits utilized for jams or cooked as vegetables in dishes of roasted meat and/or game.
Finally V. macrocarpon or Red Bilberry from Massachusset, evergreen creeper with bright red fruits, is utilized to produce juices and very coloured jellies.
